Born and grew up in Sarawak, Ariffin completed his secondary education at St. Thomas, Kuching before he obtained his Diploma in Public Administration at ITM, Sabah branch in 1994. He then pursued his law degree and graduated from the University of Malaya LLB (Hons) in 1999. Furthering his pupillage in the chamber of Azlan Sulaiman of Messrs Ghazi & Lim, Kuala Lumpur, he was eventually called to the Malayan Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor in 24^th March, 2000.
